Preserving the biotope

The prefectural biotope protection order (APPB) is strong, specific and localized protection. It aims to regulate, or even prohibit, certain human activities to conserve the living environments of nationally protected species.

APPB of the Roche de Vergisson dates from June 13, 1991 and extends over 35 ha.
This site of ecological interest welcomes remarkable natural environments (lime lawns) and animal or plant species protected by law. The APPB makes it possible to limit activities likely to harm the environment. It establishes measures prohibition the removal of materials, road development, burning, vehicle access or waste deposit, as well as measures of reglementation of climbing.

The Peregrine Falcon has no longer nested in this area for several years. However, it is likely to return there one day and other species of avifauna now benefit from the tranquility of the place offered by this protected status.

Thus, we can marvel throughout the year at the Kestrel, the Jackdaw, the Rook and the Common Raven, and the Carrion Crow, all four nesting. In summer, the White-bellied Swift enjoys being able to hunt on lawns. In winter, the Echelette Tichodrome likes to come and take up residence on the cliff.
