Escapade nature sans voiture – De la Grange du Bois à Mâcon Loché
From the preserved hamlet of La Grange du Bois, the route begins on the wooded ridge path straddling the Rhône and Bourgogne Franche-Comté regions.
A beautiful shaded section under Douglas firs, oaks, and birches opens onto a wide-open landscape, offering a magnificent view of the Roche de Vergisson and its steep summit reaching 485 meters. The route then rejoins the vineyard path, the terroir of Pouilly-Fuissé, and begins the descent to the picturesque village of Vergisson. The village is a good option for lunch before heading towards Solutré-Pouilly.
The views of the Roche de Solutré vary depending on the vantage point. From every angle, it makes an impression like a "petrified ship overlooking a sea of vines," as the local poet Alphonse de Lamartine described it. Walking on its soil, inhabited by humans for 57,000 years, one experiences its mystical character, feeling transported to distant eras, connected to our ancestors. It would be a shame not to take advantage of this excursion to stop at the Museum of Prehistory, which highlights this incredible site, and also at the Maison du Grand Site (Visitor Center) to better understand all the treasures of this Grand Site de France (Great Site of France).
We then return to the wine-growing villages of Davayé and Fuissé, passing through the hamlet of Pouilly. Many wine cellars are open to the public. Wine lovers can discover the richness and diversity of the Mâconnais terroirs.
The path to Mâcon Loché station crosses the Pouilly-Vinzelles and Pouilly-Loché appellations.
This circuit constitutes stage 2 of the Nature Escapade in the heart of the Grand Site de France of Solutré Pouilly Vergisson.
Car-free nature getaways are offered by the Réseau des Grands Sites de France.
