Portrait of the Grand Site

©Grand Site SPV

Where are you from ? Rose: I’m from Belleville. Didier: Beaujolais, Oingt, Pierres Dorées, Villefranche, that doesn’t change us much! I was parachuted here as a child, I am born in Villefranche but raised here. Afterwards, we do the seasons so obviously we know a little bit of all of France, we go from everywhere. D&R: We have been in Serrières for 14 years. Why this job? What is your background ? Didier: I like to cook the food I want in local conditions with friends, butcher, fishmonger. That's why we work well, because it's real on the plates. People are coming back. Why here? Didier: It's the real countryside, deep France with everything nearby. It is an ideal place for the traditional catering we do. It's exactly what we needed, the place we needed. I've been trying to buy for 20 years. Twice it passed under my nose and then it worked. That’s perseverance! Your favorite place on the Grand Site? Rose: People always say that we have a beautiful region. I like to stop at the Grange du Bois, you can see the 2 Roches. Didier: Whether it's day or night, it's super pretty. For the fireworks, you stand up there, you see 20 fireworks in one evening. The most beautiful site is up there. There's everything at a glance. There are the 2 Roches, and the entire valley from Mâcon to Villefranche. It's hilly. There are small, quiet restaurants, there are all prices, from gastro, to Michelin-starred, all the way to our hostel. From the menu at 15€ up to 200€. It's really spread out 50 km around. We have everything. Rose: the only small problem is the hotels and accommodation. Your best memory on the Grand Site? Didier: The takeover of Dirose. We both came from the restaurant industry, so we knew very well what we were doing. But it’s still a life change! Even if what we did was still quite thoughtful.
