Musée de préhistoire de Solutré
Located at the foot of the Roche de Solutré, a designated Grand Site de France, the Museum of Prehistory presents collections from one of the richest prehistoric sites in Europe. This hunting ground, frequented by humans for over 50,000 years, bears witness to human occupations of exceptional scale.
Discovered in 1866, this important prehistoric site plays a key role in establishing the chronology of this period. It gave its name to the Solutrean culture, which dates back to the Last Glacial Maximum. The weapon points and knives known as laurel leaves represent the pinnacle of flint knapping techniques and make this site a major archaeological reference point today.
The Archaeological Park complements the museum visit. This marked trail features 8 highlights covering geology, hunting techniques, the landscape during Prehistory, the discovery and first excavations of the site, contemporary excavations, the deposit and its remains.
