Dry stone wall: a pilot project in Vergisson
As part of the pilot projects on dry stone, the Grand Site is restoring a retaining wall at the foot of the Roche de Vergisson. The renovation of such a structure could become a reference for the entire territory, proving once again the durability and sustainability of dry stone. This ambitious project requires the application of all know-how, starting with a geotechnical study carried out in 2023 and 2024, in order to prevent risks and size the structure accordingly.
The objectives of this project are multiple:
- Adapt existing structures to current viticulture practices (use of heavy agricultural machinery);
- Combat soil erosion;
- Highlight expertise recognized by UNESCO and develop the dry stone industry;
- Strengthen confidence in this constructive technique with scientific and professional expertise;
- Return to a traditional and distinctive landscape of the commune, with tourist issues linked to the Roche de Vergisson and the plots in 1er Believed).
The work was carried out on a 14-metre stretch of land in poor condition by two qualified companies: Culture Paysage(s) and Martin Muriot – Lavier murailler en Bourgogne. It is financed by the Department of Saône-et-Loire, the project owner, by the Municipality of Vergisson, by the Bourgogne Franche-Comté Region and by the State (DREAL).
