The Department, pilot passion
The Department of Saône-et-Loire has been the manager of the Grand Site de France Solutré Pouilly Vergisson since January 1, 2019. The national recognition constituted by its “Grand Site de France” label commits the departmental community, residents and all stakeholders of the territory, in pursuit of the same objectives: the preservation of this exceptional space associated with its enhancement and reasoned development.
Renewed confidence
On October 12, 2020, the Minister of Ecological Transition signed the decision to renew the Label Grand Site de France to the Department for a period of 6 years.
During this new labeling period, running from 2020 to 2026, the Department is committed to pursuing proactive policy maintaining landscape qualities and sustainable management. It is structured around four main axes:
- preserve the great landscape and its components, which remains the main objective of such a system,
- take care of the quality of welcome, visit and discovery,
- rely on the identity of the Grand Site as a lever for tourist entertainment,
- involve residents and local stakeholders to bring the site to life.
Each year, the 2020-2026 action program of the Grand Site is based on these four main axes, after validation by the project monitoring and steering bodies. These actions are defined according to the identified needs of the territory in terms of preservation of the landscape, ofimprovement conditions for welcoming visitors and sustainable development,. Some are registered with Environment Plan of the Department, the Grand Site being identified as a demonstrator and exemplary territory, particularly in terms of protection of biodiversity.
Other actions may arise from opportunities, particularly in relation to the policies of the Grand Site's institutional partners, the projects of municipalities and local stakeholders. To encourage cooperation, a Governance charter was co-developed and signed on May 26, 2023 between: the State, the Department, the Urban Community and the Communes.
