2020-2026, act for the Grand Site

For the new labeling period 2020 – 2026, the Grand Site de France Solutré Pouilly Vergisson project is going back to basics. Attached to a territorial project oriented towards the landscape and the values ​​common to all the Major Sites, the action program responds to the following challenges:

  • preserve the great landscape and its components by integrating the ecological transition and future developments,
  • take care of the qualities of welcome, visit and discovery, in order to raise awareness among visitors, residents and users of the fragility of places,
  • use the identity of the Grand Site as a development lever, for smooth tourism development,
  • be an actor in local development and bring the site to life thanks to the support of residents and socio-economic actors for the project.

Deliberately turned towardsanimation and tourism development of the site, the first labeling period, between 2013 and 2018, contributed to theimprovement of visitor reception. Propose and implement a diversity of activities, valuing the wealth and the actors of the territory, made it possible to optimize the functions of structuring equipment.

Essential for better management of tourist flows and the enrichment of the “Grand Site” experience, this objective is now achieved and sustainable. For the second, and current, labeling period, from 2020 to 2026, the manager puts the preservation of the site and thesupport for its development.

The action plan is therefore structured around four main axes actively serving the harmonious and sustainable development of the site.

Preserve the great landscape and its components 

Main part of this second period of labeling, it is mainly based on the Single management document, developed in 2017, to intervene on major safeguarding issues. 

As part of the system Natura 2000, the continuation of the reconquest of lime lawns and heaths, and maintaining the quality of forest habitats are major objectives.

Concerning the more ordinary nature, actions of preservation meadows, bocage associated and support structures of the vineyard are conducted.

Particular attention is paid to urban planning aspects des villages and hamlets of the protected site, the steps taken in the municipality of Chasselas  (AVAP) should notably serve as an example. But it is also towards the eastern limit of the perimeter of the Grand Site, in the immediate vicinity of the city of Mâcon and more medium-sized towns like Charnay-les-Macon et Prized, in the grip of growing urban development, that all eyes are turning.

The Territorial Coherence Scheme (SCOT) being developed in the territory “ South Burgundy » (Beaujolais, Clunisois, Mâconnais, Tournugeois), the Grand Site wishes to become a strong partner of the PETR South Burgundy who is carrying out the project, so that particular care is given to the extended perimeter of the Grand Site.

Take care of the qualities of welcome, visit and discovery

The manager of the Grand Site ensures that it maintains reception quality for visitors, in accordance with the spirit of the place and preservation of the landscape.

Themes such as hikes, tourist accommodation, gentle travel and services to the population are given priority.

A particular focus concerns the management of flow of campers and their reception in the perimeter of the Grand Site.

This mode of travel and vacation, increasingly favored by vacationers, cannot be neglected in the heart of a protected site, at the risk of generating irreversible harm more or less long term.

The approach to these themes is carried out in partnership with and alongside competent institutionsIncluding Mâconnais Beaujolais Agglomeration for hiking and traveling, and Region Burgundy Franche Comté for tourist accommodation.

Use the identity of the Grand Site as a lever for tourism development

This involves continuing the work undertaken during the first six years of labeling around an offer animations, activities and events of very high quality. The programming allows the discovery of the Grand Site from all its angles and is based on local stakeholders (guides, craftsmen, artists, etc.), alongside the members of the team.

The two structuring equipment, House of the Grand Site et Prehistory Museum, are the anchor points essentials of programming, but this one is intended to extend to each municipality of the perimeter of the Grand Site.

Thus enriched, the visit becomes experiment, raises awareness offragile balance between preservation and attendance, encourages the extension and deepen discovery, invites you to take the time to contemplate.

Be an actor in local development and bring the site to life

This new labeling period gives a prominent place to local actors, professionals, residents or associations. Already very active, for a large number of them, in the valorization and protection of this heritage to which they are attached, it is now a question of mutualise everyone's investment to optimize it.

Hooked, the network of Grand Site partners formed over the last few years, continues to welcome new members. It is animated for promote, alongside the manager, this exceptional territory, its values, its qualities, its products and its know-how.

Work must also be undertaken for better appropriation of the House of the Grand Site by the local population. The equipment is destined to become a Third Place open to all initiatives.
