In the collective memory, the image of prehistoric man is that of a half-naked and hairy being, violent and aggressive, armed with a club and living in a hostile and dangerous world. From the hunt into the abyss in Solutré to the lakeside cities, including Gallic dolmens and even the caveman, modern man's vision of prehistoric man has long been a prisoner of real clichés about prehistory.
Through a very broad iconography and a multitude of objects (models, paintings, archaeological objects, chromolithographs, posters, sculptures, films, advertisements, etc.), the exhibition dissects the main myths about Prehistory in an attempt to understand their meaning. origin, their diffusion and their influence over the last century and a half on our vision of Prehistory.
